Everyone’s been talking about the rise of athleisure. Hey, we’re guilty of it too. Still, with all the buzz around leggings and joggers taking over skinny jeans, we feel the need to take a deeper look and see if the rumors are true—and voila!, we found it. Thanks to data analytics company EDITED, we have become privy to insider information on the jeans vs. athleisure conflict—and what we discovered is quite fascinating.
The verdict? Yes, there is a trend that’s moving towards a more comfortable lifestyle. However, despite the rapid rise of atheisure, skinny jeans are officially more popular than ever. After scrolling through EDITED’s May 2016 report based on data from 25 of the biggest womenswear retailers tracked across each quarter, we learned that new arrivals of denim in Q1 ’16 increased 8.6% compared to Q1 ’15. That’s a 21% increase from Q1 ’14 and a 78% increase form Q1 ’13.
What is perhaps most shocking about the stats from EDITED, is that when denim styles are broken down by category, “skinny jeans still dominate the market, despite their ‘tragic death’ in press headlines.” In fact, EDITED classifies skinny jeans as the number one “top mover,” which are items that arrive in store in the last three months and sell out the majority of sizes while remaining at full price. Sure, leggings also grew in sales but not as much. So there you have it: skinny denim is not dead, not even close.

The Surprising Mind Trick That Will Set You Up for Success
Elon Musk–you probably know him as the CEO of Tesla, or maybe you heard of a little know company called PayPal that he helped found? From Paypal to Tesla, wherever you’ve seen his name, it is synonymous with success. When it comes to business, he’s found success in what everyone else considers impossible.
So what’s his secret to success? How does he always get it so right? According to Inc., there is “A simple, excellent theory for Musk’s success that is applicable to all of us.” The article shares a a great theory for Musk’s success that is applicable to all of us. It is from Farnam Street and a Quora discussion started by Jon Evans:
What allows Musk to take such big risks and achieve succvesss? SpaceX co-founder Jim Cantrell shared: “[It] doesn’t matter if it’s going up against the banking system (Paypal), going up against the entire aerospace industry (SpaceX), or going up against the U.S. auto industry (Tesla). He can’t imagine NOT succeeding, and that is a very critical trait that leads him ultimately to success… What separated us, I believe, was his lack of even being able to conceive failure. I know this because this is where we parted ways at SpaceX. We got to a point where I could not see it succeeding and walked away. He didn’t, and succeeded.”
What the simple bottom line? “You have to prepare for success more than you prepare for failure,” says Cantrell. “It means determining your endgame before you start. It means working backward from your ultimate success. It means laying out the steps that you need to take at the end, then determining the actions you need to take today to reach those final steps.” Musk does not take failure as an option. By removing the option of failure, he instead learns from his failures and thinks of them as setbacks. The lesson here? If you’re looking to advance your career, don’t let the fear of failure keep you back. Try applying Musk’s “failure is no option” philosophy in your home and work life.

How to Master Wearing a Miniskirt Like an It-Girl
The miniskirt has time and time again been shamed in history. Conjuring up images of schoolgirls and cheerleaders, the mini has one of the worse reputations in sartorial history. In fact, the priestess of chic, Coco Chanel herself once even declared this ladylike piece to be “just awful.”
Despite these holy words, the mini is now back in fashion and according to our experts, the style is here to stay. One of the most difficult pairings for us grown (though still young at heart) women is how to temper the mini length to dress for professional settings. Some say it’s impossible, however today, we are proving those skeptics wrong and focusing on smart mini skirt pairing.

3 Powerful Pieces of Career Advice From Sheryl Sandberg
Whether you’re preparing for a big meeting or have your eyes set on that corner office, it’s fair to say that if you’re looking to take your career to the next level, strategy is key–and looking to other women who have succeeded in their work life is essential. We’ve all heard the name Sheryl Sandberg but do you all know how incredible she is and all that she has accomplished.
Sandberg works at the helm of Facebook, navigating uncharted waters by becoming one of the few women at the C-level of business; she juggles the management of the company’s sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy, and communications. Sandberg is a 21st century superwoman–by day she is Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer and by night she is the mother of two children.
In short, she’s our hero–and lucky for us in a recent TED talk, Sandberg offers some sage pieces of life advice which we’ve rounded up for you women looking to reach the next level in the career world.
Keep reading to learn Sandberg’s valuable tips to career-minded women everywhere!
TIP 1: SIT AT THE TABLE
First of all, Sandberg encourages women to “sit at the table” and “lean in” at work. Sandberg states that, “success and likeability are positively correlated for men and negatively correlated for women” (Sandberg, 7:10). She’s not saying that that you need to be a Miranda Priestly figure in the office à la The Devil Wears Prada. Rather, it is crucial to never underestimate your abilities and always negotiate for yourself, actively reaching for new opportunities and promotions.
TIP 2: MAKE YOUR PARTNER A REAL PARTNER
Sandberg recommends to “make your partner a real partner.” In other words, the labor of household chores and childcare at home should be divided equally between partners, regardless of gender. To support this point she notes another interesting fact: “studies show that households with equal earning and equal responsibility also have half the divorce rate” (Sandberg, 1:22).
TIP 3: DON’T LEAVE BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Finally, the business executive suggests, “don’t leave before you leave.” As mothers, “women face harder choices between professional success and personal fulfillment” (Sandberg, 1:19). However, don’t make decisions too far in advance or start quietly leaning back in anticipation of having a family. Instead, it is important to “keep your foot on the gas pedal,” constantly challenging yourself to lead in the office (Sandberg, 13:00).
