Using stats such as average rent, walkability, and the unemployment rate, we compiled the top ten cities for young professionals to enjoy a healthy work-life balance.
Cities in the Midwest were among the top choices. Five of the top ten cities on the list are located in the Midwest and it’s easy to see why. Low unemployment rates, very affordable rent, above average income, and a growing nightlife allow these cities to continually thrive. While salaries aren’t as high as you’d find in cities like Chicago or Boston, the cost of living is much lower. This gives young professionals more spending power for better amenities, more travel, and enough leftover to max out retirement accounts.
Northern California and Washington also claimed their spots on the list. With the Bay Area being the focus of the area, these cities provide countless outdoor activities. They also have a high walkability score which makes it easier to get around. Transportation costs stay lower thanks to this, which helps make up for the higher rent than you’ll see in the Midwest.
